High in the hills overlooking the villages of Skala
and Milos is Metochi. The
village has some of the oldest houses found on Agistri.
Metochi is an entirely residential area with the pretty, traditional houses
nestled snugly into the hills and home to both local and overseas visitors
with holiday houses.
The well patronised Parnassos taverna can be
found on the tiny winding streets which weave upwards from the only the
road to run through its centre.
Agistri is famous for its pine forest which fragrance the
whole island with not only a fresh pine scent but also with the scent of
wild herbs and flowers which can be found among the trees. Metochi is the
perfect place to reach some of the main tracks which are clearly marked and
make great walking and exploring excursions.
Even if hiking is not your holiday style, visiting Metochi is well worth
it, to experience the quiet of a traditional Greek village and to wonder
at the truly stunning views of the villages below and the Saronic Gulf. It
is a panoramic vista of Aegina, the Peloponnese and neighbouring island
both inhabited and uninhabited.
